Population and Social Statistics Directorate

Key Responsibilities

The Directorate will be headed by a Director, Population and Social Statistics, who is responsible to the Director General for the following functions;

  1. Undertake decennial population and housing census as per the Statistics Act, 2006 and schedule 4 of the Kenya Constitution, 2010;
  2. Undertake demographic and health sample surveys;
  3. Compile vital statistics;
  4. Conduct social sample surveys;
  5. Collect, collate, compile, analyze, publish and disseminate administrative data on Governance, Peace and Security, health, education and gender statistics;
  6. Undertake cartographic mapping work for census;
  7. Develop and manage geo-spatial databases;
  8. Prepare relevant chapters in the Annual Economic Survey and Statistical Abstract;
  9. Disseminate population, demographic and social statistics;
  10. Provide technical advice on population, demographic and social statistics and cartographic matters to stakeholders;
  11. Coordination of collaboration and partnership between data producers and users in population and social sectors;
  12. Coordinate collaboration with international bodies that support population related matters;
  13. Undertake data entry, processing, analysis and dissemination; and
  14. Maintain population and social statistics database(s).

Divisions

The Directorate will be organized into three (3) divisions, namely;

  1. Population Statistics;
  2. Social Statistics; and
  3. Cartography/GIS Statistics.
